The expert in sustainability Jerry Nelson revealed to the magazine Exame 7 sustainable trends in construction. To make everything more clear, the webpage decided to illustrate these tips with environmentally friendly architectural designs.
Sometimes it is not necessary to make a new project to make it sustainable. And that’s what the retrofit it is: old buildings are renovated with ecological practices. The idea is faster and considerably more economical than starting a new construction.
For example, we find the largest vertical garden in London, housed in a traditional hotel in town. The green wall reaches 21 m, irrigated by rainwater and helps to filter the air in the neighborhood.
2. Solar Energy
Solar energy continues to be a lucrative market for the construction sector, but also for the end consumers. In Brazil, projects and buildings equipped with solar panels can mean a discount or even credit creation before the power distributor.
There are already attractive chances for home. Think of Parkroyal, the first eco-friendly hotel in Singapore, equipped with automatic lights, solar panels, motion sensors and collection and recycling of rainwater.
3. Heated Market
Government, residential, industrial, educational or commercial fields, in any field, sustainability is the bet for the construction sector. And Nelson says: “Green building is the tsunami of the future that will flood the whole real estate industry.”
In Brazil it is no different. In the first project whose developer was Alphins in São Paulo, the ecological touch delighted the residents of Vila Madalena, who invested about R $ 900 thousand in the units covered with vertical gardens in the city’s West Zone.
4. Energy Efficiency
Avoiding energy waste is more than turning off the lights when you leave. The innovations in the construction market can make all the difference, such as the ability to control the lights from a smartphone and a good architectural design that enhances the natural light with a good lighting scheme.
A sustainable project that illustrates various ecological practices is the office of this headhunting company in Japan, dubbed Urban Farm. Throughout the building, an agricultural system has been installed which is cultivated by the employees themselves, with the help of automatic irrigation processes.
The office was able to save 30% of energy by combining fluorescent and LED lamps .
5. LEED and green building certificates
More than a better planet, green buildings are synonymous with status. Currently, architects, designers and engineers are in a constant search for one of the largest sustainable construction certificates, LEED. In Brazil, the AQUA seal plays the same role, assessing the environmental management of the works and technical and architectural characteristics.
The webpage has published a project that has received LEED Gold rating in. It is Corus Quay Office, which employs more than a thousand employees in a sustainable environment. Some of the design highlights are the vegetable wall covering five floors and a large slide that encourages employees to devote the elevators.
6. No Wastage
The idea that drinking water is a finite resource remains strong. the new buildings will have to remedy through collecting rainwater, reducing the flow of taps and unloading or installing a green roof.
The process of awareness came to the renowned designer Philippe Starck , who has partnered with the largest company of prefabricated modules in Europe to create a number of houses that differ in size, number of rooms, floors and layouts, unified by ecological concepts .
All houses in the series are designed to integrate intelligent and sustainable technologies, including photovoltaic cells, solar panels, wind turbines and rainwater collectors.
7. Zero Energy
Self-sustainable buildings and even projects produce more energy than they consume, which is already a reality.
An example is the tendency of Fab Lab house, a wooden house prototype that behaves like an organism. Here, efficiency is not only in energy, but in full production support for the residents to provide a planting structure and manufacturing tools.
